Jules Verne's most famous novel

After publishing Vingt mille lieues sous les mers (Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea) in 2014, we began our search for another of Jules Verne’s great manuscripts – Tour du monde en 80 jours (Around the World in 80 Days). Several experts told us it couldn't be found, but we didn’t lose hope. Several months later, as we were searching through the BnF’s Hetzel holdings for possible clues from the editor’s correspondance with Verne, we were met with a wonderful surprise…

Lo and behold, in a folder filled with publishing agreements, we came across a collection of pages covered in Jules Verne’s handwriting, pages about a certain Phileas Fogg and his many adventures. How happy we were to find this unexpected treasure: the only complete manuscript copy of Jules Verne’s most celebrated book.

Published for the very first time

This document, which was written and published in serial form in 1872, does indeed exist. We are proud to present it to the public, for the very first time.

In addition to the complete manuscript for Tour du monde en 80 jours, we decided to include the 38 handwritten pages of Verne's original and incomplete draft, held at the Musée Jules Verne in Nantes.
